I gotta be honest: Every time I write about “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot,” I nearly write Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Sadly, the upcoming comedy starring Tina Fey and Margot Robbie isn’t a dramatization of Wilco’s killer album, but is instead a fish-out-of-water comedy.
The latest from “Focus” and “Crazy Stupid Love” directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa is based on the memoir by Kim Barker, and follows a woman who gets the unlikely assignment of reporting from Afghanistan, and falls in with a rogue band of journalist ex-pats as she learns to adapt to a new culture. Hilarity and understanding ensue. Here’s the official synopsis:
When reporter Kim Barker’s (Tina Fey) life needs something more, she decides to ‘shake it all up’ by taking an assignment in a war zone. There, in the midst of chaos, she finds the strength she never knew she had.
