Karyn Kusama has experimented with horror elements and psychological drama before in movies like “Jennifer’s Body” and “Girlfight,” but she’s about to combine the two for “The Invitation,” which is easily her most disorienting and terrifying film to date. After scaring audiences at its SXSW debut last year, the movie is coming to mess with your head on VOD and in theaters this April.

“The Invitation” stars Logan Marshall-Green as Will, a divorcee who shows up to a dinner party being thrown by his ex-wife (Tammy Blanchard) and her new husband David (Michiel Huisman). As the official synopsis reads: “The estranged divorcees’ tragic past haunts an equally eerie present; amid Eden’s suspicious behavior and her mysterious house guests, Will becomes convinced that his invitation was extended with a hidden agenda.”
Whatever the hidden agenda ends up being, the new trailer above guarantees that it’s terrifying, twisty and damaging. Blurring mystery and horror together, “The Invitation” looks like it’s going to be impossible not to accept. The movie opens in theaters and On Demand starting April 8.
