Following the coke-fueled insanity of Archer Vice and the dropping of the ISIS name last season, “Archer” is once again changing up its formula. In an interview with The Daily Beast, Reed claims to be taking influence from classic noir television like “Moonlighting” and “Magnum P.I.”
“I was just trying to give a clean break from the past couple of seasons, and L.A. seemed like a fun way to do that — and give our background painters a bunch of extra work that they probably didn’t want,” says Reed.
It is interesting to see how this location shift will affect the character dynamics. Reed speaks on one in particular saying, “Cyril [Figgis] is the owner of the detective agency because in California, to be a licensed private eye you need to have 2,000 hours of detective work or a criminal justice or law degree, so they all have to work under Cyril’s shingle, and Cyril gets to flex his authority a little bit — much to Archer’s and everybody else’s chagrin.”
The already star-studded cast will be joined by appearances from the hilarious J.K. Simmons and Patton Oswalt, as well as the return of Slater. Keegan-Micheal Key, Jon Daly, Jon Glaser, John O’Hurley and Dave Willis will all be heard as well, although how loudly is yet to be seen.
The new season of Archer will premiere March 31 on FX. Watch the trailer above and read the full interview at The Daily Beast.
