For Quentin Tarantino’s “The Hateful Eight,” the esteemed Ennio Morricone agreed to compose his first Western film score in 40 years, and it’s been a decision that has reaped widespread acclaim from critics and cinephiles around the globe. Not only did the composer walk away with the Golden Globe for Best Original Score, but he’s widely expected to do the same at the Oscars at the end of the month.
In an insightful bit of Oscar promotion, as well as a celebration of Morricone’s excellent work on the film, The Weinstein Company has released a new video which takes viewers inside the actual session in which Morricone recorded the 7-minute “L’Ultima Diligenza per Red Rock.” The track singlehandedly provides the movie with its unbearable menace, and it’s absolutely thrilling to see Morricone in control in the recording studio.
