Chelsea Handler Reveals Plans for New Netflix Series (And Now Has a Title)

This week, Chelsea Handler declared the official plans for her long-awaited full-time segue to Netflix, via a handwritten “note to self” that also included some helpful reminders about why this series will be different from her past work, such as E!’s “Chelsea Lately.”

In the handwritten note below, Handler details the official schedule: Three 30-minute episodes a week, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The exact phrase “talk show” is never used — instead, Handler says that she’ll be traveling around the world and learning new things.

It’s a concept which should sound very familiar to anyone who enjoyed the four-part documentary series “Chelsea Does…”, which premiered last January on Netflix. But the release doesn’t exclude the idea that a more traditional talk show element might be involved, as she does include a list of “dream guests” — Michelle Obama, the Pope and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s maid.

How many episodes have been ordered is as yet unknown — also unknown is what it’s going to be called. Handler’s still in search of a title, and is taking suggestions right now on Twitter and Facebook — the final result will be announced tomorrow at 9 a.m. PT in a live press conference. (She’s already gotten a couple of interesting suggestions, as seen below.)

UPDATE: Per the official announcement, the name of the show will be “Chelsea.” (I mean, why not.)

Whatever the show is, it’s clear Handler is aiming for something different from her E! work, this time around. “Once an episode is up and streaming on Netflix, it will be available until the end of time,” Handler reminds herself here. “So put a little more thought into what you say this time around.”

“Chelsea” will premiere May 11 on Netflix.
