Sofia Coppola to Remake 'The Beguiled,' Kidman, Dunst and Fanning in Talks to Star

Sofia Coppola will reportedly write and direct a star-studded remake of “The Beguiled,” a 1971 drama starring Clint Eastwood.

Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst and Elle Fanning are in talks to star. The latter two would be reuniting with Oscar-winner Coppola. She directed Dunst in “The Virgin Suicides” (1999) and “Marie Antoinette” (2006), and Fanning in “Somewhere” (2010).

In the original feature Eastwood played John, a Confederate solider who’s on the verge of death when he’s rescued by a twelve-year-old girl. The pre-teen takes him to her all-girls boarding school to recover and chaos ensues. The charmer’s presence disrupts the school’s atmosphere, with students and faculty alike falling for him and turning against each other.

“The Beguiled” marks Coppola’s first remake, and she’s about to direct her first opera, which will premiere May 24.
