Bridget Jones is back, baby. The new trailer for “Bridget Jones’s Baby” has arrived and though we’d like to remind everyone that a woman’s life is not just about marriage and babies, this reunion is one we’ve been waiting for.
While we’d be perfectly content to watch Bridget (Renee Zellweger) enjoy the life of a 40-something singleton — with a possible tryst with Ed Sheeran — this is a rom-com, so naturally a wrench is thrown into the mix to ensure comedic misunderstandings. The wrench this time around? Bridget is pregnant. The screwdriver? She’s not sure if the baby’s father is her ex-boyfriend (fiance?) Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) or new flame Jack (Patrick Dempsey).
But a little misunderstanding never stopped Bridget Jones from loving her life, being driven in her career or being funny as hell, which is why we’ve always loved this character. (And we’ll add that we’re especially happy to see Zellweger reprise the role after the completely ridiculous faux-controversy that was “face-gate.” Let’s focus on her work.)
Returning behind the camera is “Bridget Jones’s Diary” original director Sharon Maguire, who will hopefully add the spark that seemed missing from the second film “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason.”
“Bridget Jones’s Baby” hits theaters on September 16.
