Gather your SXSW hype and focus it in a new direction. Fairytales and legends are all the rage right now, and the latest genre offering in this vein seems promising. Writer-director Anne Hamilton is set to debut her fairytale thriller “American Fable” at SXSW later this week. The film is set in the rural Midwest, where Gitty, the 11-year old daughter of a farm family, is soon to discover her father’s dark secret in the silo.
Hamilton describes the tone as “Fargo” meets “Pan’s Labyrinth.”

“I want audiences to leave ‘American Fable’ having experienced a story with in sights into human nature, cultural differences and the political forces that have shaped this country,” she said of her project. “But most of all, I want to take them on an exciting and unique journey into a dark and beautiful world that I know and love.”
“American Fable” will premiere at SXSW on Sunday, March 13. Check out the clip above.
