Coming off their recent successful collaboration on “Lone Survivor,” Director Peter Berg and star Mark Wahlberg tackle yet another true story, about a more recent and more familiar event: The BP oil spill. The story is set on a drilling rig, known as Deepwater Horizon, in the Gulf of Mexico, which exploded during April 2010 and created the worst oil
spill in U.S. history.
In the first trailer for the film, Wahlberg’s on-screen daughter rehearses her class presentation on what her dad’s job is, using a shaken upside down can of Coca-Cola. Then the can unexpectedly bursts open. Despite the incredibly obvious analogy, this trailer does make Coke a little scary while simultaneously teaching you more about oil than you’ve probably learned in the last 10 years.
“Deepwater Horizon” will be distributed in theaters by Summit Entertainment and Participant Media, starting September 30.
