David Silverman, President of the American Atheists, decided to rile some feathers this month, taking the time to go down to the 43rd Annual Conservative Political Agenda Conference (CPAC) to try and make his hilariously abrasive argument against a theocratic democracy.
The segment’s Werner Herzog-inspired elements include familiarly melancholic music and a languishing narrator, as Silverman, along with his gang of like-minded “irritable atheists” descend on the conference, reminding everyone that “religion is a lie” and it ultimately “deserves to die.” A self-proclaimed “firebrand atheist,” Silverman wants to make sure that atheism begins to find a larger and more cooperative association with the United States government, and most importantly, god-loving conservatives.
From disturbingly friendly young conservatives to bib-adorned old men, this year’s CPAC was one that will hardly be forgotten for the thousands of participants that came down to Maryland’s Gaylord National Convention Center.
