Watch: Robert Carlyle Sweats Bullets with Ray Winstone in 'Barney Thomson' Exclusive Clip

Robert Carlyle has had an outstanding career that’s spanned nearly 30 years. In his time in theater, television, and film, the revered British actor has not shied away from playing enigmatic roles. From an abusive father and husband in “Angela’s Ashes,” to a desperate and fun-loving male stripper in “The Full Monty,” Carlyle has demonstrated the range of his acting abilities.

Yet in all that time, it’s hard to imagine that the brash, loud-mouthed, yet affable Scot has never taken to directing a film. That is set to change with “Barney Thomson,” a gut-busting crime comedy that will be the BAFTA award-winning actor’s directorial debut.

Barney Thomson (Carlyle) is an unassuming, reserved barber who is just trying to keep his head down. But unforeseen circumstances begin to arise, causing Thomson to regrettably and comically fall into the role of a serial killer. As Thomson bumbles his way through his life, trying to cover his clumsy tracks, Inspector Holdall (Winstone) is starting to come closer and closer to catching the eccentric Scot. If that wasn’t enough, the gauche barber is continuously emasculated by his chain-smoking mother, Cemolina (Emma Thompson), which only add to the ever-climbing pile of bodies.

Before catching “Barney Thomson” on demand February 2 and in theaters March 11, check out Indiewire’s exclusive clip above.
