Zack Snyder Explains Batman’s Rule Breaking In ‘Dawn Of Justice,’ Teases ‘Seven Samurai’-Style ‘Justice League’

Zack Snyder Explains Batman's Rule Breaking In 'Dawn Of Justice,' Teases 'Seven Samurai'-Style 'Justice League'

Given that you’ve seen the intense trailers, and that the marketing about “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice” presents a weary but no less weak Batman, it’s probably not a spoiler to tell you baddies meet their end at the hands of The Dark Knight in Zack Snyder‘s blockbuster. But there are certain fans who are outright appalled that Batman — who has a souped-up car, Batwing, and all kinds of other gadgets — has a gun in this film. However, Snyder explains his justification for Batman being judge, jury and executioner.

“I tried to do it in a technical way. There’s a great YouTube video that shows all the kills in the Christopher Nolan movies even though we would perceive them as movies where he doesn’t kill anyone. I think there’s 42 potential kills that Batman does! Also, it goes back and includes even the Tim Burton Batman movies where this reputation as a guy that doesn’t kill comes from,” he told HeyUGuys. “So, I tried to do it by proxy. Shoot the car they’re in, the car blows up or the grenade would go off in the guy’s hand, or when he shoots the tank and the guy pretty much lights the tank [himself]. I perceive it as him not killing directly, but if the bad guy’s are associated with a thing that happens to blow up, he would say that that’s not really my problem.”

So basically, Snyder’s reasoning boils down to: 1) the other movies did it, and 2) Batman doesn’t really kill the bad guys, just indirectly. It’s not the strongest foundation to build an argument on, but sure.

Meanwhile, the director will next be moving onto “Justice League.” And he brings up one of the greatest movies of all time in discussing the story we’ll see in that picture. “I’m getting ready to start ‘Justice League’ on the 11th of April, so in like two weeks we start shooting, and it’s an intense, awesome, and gigantic undertaking because Bruce [Wayne] is having to go out and sort of ‘Seven Samurai’ the Justice League together, which is fun,” he told Yahoo Movies.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice” is now in theaters with opinion still wildly divided, but two things are certain: It’s going to make a boatload of money, and obviously, Armond White likes it. Watch that YouTube video Snyder is talking about below.
