Ahead of his official onscreen debut in “Captain America: Civil War” — and even further ahead of his standalone film, which is being released in February of 2018 — Chadwick Boseman’s take on Black Panther can be seen in the above clip. “Civil War” charts the rift between Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.) and Captain America (Chris Evans), a schism that tears the Avengers asunder.
In the nearly minute-long scene, Black Panther chases Cap and his ol’ pal the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) on foot and in a car through a traffic tunnel. All three move with what can quite literally be described as superhuman speed, given the whole, well, superhero thing. It ends before the actual fisticuffs, as that would be a spoiler and all that, but the only reasonable conclusion to be made from the available evidence is that Black Panther bests his foes by virtue of being a way cooler character than either of them.
“Civil War” will be released on May 6. Early word on the latest Marvel property has been highly positive, with even superhero agnostics singing its praises. Ryan Coogler will direct the standalone “Black Panther,” marking a huge jump for the “Fruitvale Station” and “Creed” filmmaker; the same can be said of Boseman, who rose to prominence with his highly regarded performances as Jackie Robinson in “42” and James Brown in “Get On Up.”
