Before its nationwide debut, Indiewire has the exclusive first look at the new theatrical poster for the crime thriller, “Cash Only.” The film stars Nickola Shreli, who also wrote the screenplay, as Elvis Martini, a struggling landlord whose apartment building is about to be foreclosed by the bank.
Behind on rent and bills, he realizes that he can’t pay back the thousands that he owes the dangerous Albanian underworld. Things change when he finds ill-gotten money in an evicted tenant’s apartment, but soon finds out that the cash belonged to an even bigger crook who wants his stolen money back. To retrieve what is his, the mysterious menace kidnaps Elvis’ 9-year-old daughter, Lena, and threatens her life if he doesn’t come up with $25,000 in 24-hours.
“Cash Only” was directed by Malik Bader and shot on location in the streets of Detroit. The film premiered at the 2015 Fantasia Film Festival to great acclaim and took home the award for Best Director. It wasn’t long before FilmBuff licensed the worldwide distribution rights.
The gritty, action-film will hit select theaters and be available on VOD nationwide on May 13.
