It’s been well-known for more than a decade now that “Fast and the Furious” co-stars Vin Diesel and Paul Walker were like brothers. Walker’s late 2014 death in a car accident called the future of the highly successful franchise into question, but “Furious 7” — which was completed with the aid of body doubles and CGI — wound up being by far the most profitable entry in the series yet (as well as one of the best). An eighth installment thus seemed like a certainty, and Diesel is now looking ahead to its 2017 release with a new poster hinting at Walker’s absence.
Diesel uploaded the minimalist image to his own Facebook page. The actor can be seen in front of a car that is undoubtedly capable of going really fast, perhaps at a quarter-mile at a time, the words “new roads ahead” above the title “Furious 8.”

News regarding the film has been trickling in for a while now, with Charlize Theron and “Game of Thrones” actor Kristofer Hivju both confirmed to appear in it. F. Gary Gary (“Straight Outta Compton”) will direct the sequel, which comes out on April 17 of next year.
