Ever wanted to watch five seasons of ungodly violent prestige TV in just 11 minutes? Now you can, thanks to YouTube user Steven Thomas, who uploaded his compendious “Game of Thrones” retrospective last summer. Unless you’ve been living under a rock far from Westeros, you know why I’m telling you this now: HBO’s bloody drama returns for its highly anticipated sixth season tonight.
Given how rich the “Thrones” world is — George R.R. Martin, who wrote the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series on which the show is based, has crafted an incredibly complex mythology and history — the catch-up video will no doubt work better as a refresher course than an entree into the series as a whole. 50 episodes have aired thus far, and even the most comprehensive overview is no substitute for gorging the whole bloody affair in its entirety. (I myself binge-watched the first four seasons over eight or nine days while house-sitting with a cold last year, not that I recommend that method to anyone else.)
It probably goes without saying at this point, but in case it doesn’t: Spoilers abound. You won’t have a chance to get invested in all these characters’ lives in just a few short minutes, which kind of takes the drama out seeing one fan favorite after another mercilessly killed off.
