Universal Pictures just released the first “Jason Bourne” trailer to get everyone excited for Matt Damon’s return as the titular super spy. It’s been nine years since fans last saw Damon portray the CIA assassin, and this time he has new tricks up his sleeve.
The action-packed preview shows Bourne take on new enemies, a high-speed motorcycle chase and introduces us to new characters. Oscar-winner Alicia Vikander, Tommy Lee Jones and Vincent Cassel join the cast. Julie Stiles reprises her role as Nicky Parsons.
“There’s been the financial collapse, the great recession, all these issues of cyber warfare and civil liberties,” Damon told EW of Bourne’s hiatus. “We find him in a dark and tortured place.”
This story takes place exactly 12 years after the last Damon-starring movie and will follow the character as he travels to Athens, Berlin, Las Vegas and Washington D.C. in search of answers.
The film is helmed by “The Bourne Supremacy” and “The Bourne Ultimatum” director Paul Greengrass, who co-wrote and produced the sequel with Damon.
“Jason Bourne” is slated to hit theaters on July 29.
