The Cannes Film Festival is slowly approaching with the opening ceremonies kicking off in just a few short weeks. The festival lineup has plenty of highly-anticipated premieres from directors like Woody Allen, Mike Nichols, Ken Loach, Maren Ade, and Asghar Farhadi. One of the films making its world premiere at the festival is Paul Verhoeven’s new psychological thriller “Elle,” starring Isabelle Huppert as the head of a video game company who is assaulted in her home by an unknown assailant. When she tracks down the man, both of their lives are thrown into chaos.
Paul Verhoeven has been a cult favorite for some time now. His films “RoboCop,” “Total Recall,” “Basic Instinct,” “Showgirls,” and “Starship Troopers,” have amassed many, many fans for their social satire, campy qualities, and violent content. His last film was the experimental “Tricked,” which was shot in installments based on story ideas submitted by the public. “Elle’s” star Isabelle Huppert can also be seen in Joachim Trier’s latest film “Louder Than Bombs,” which premiered at last year’s Cannes Film Festival.
The 2016 Cannes Film Festival takes place between May 11th and May 22nd. “Elle” will premiere in competition. See the photos below.
