At one time poised to be a project that would’ve teamed Richard Linklater and Jennifer Lawrence, that iteration of “The Rosie Project” ultimately fell apart. But you can’t keep a quirky rom-com down, and with this career newly revitalized thanks to “Deadpool,” Ryan Reynolds as signed up to star in the picture.
Based on Graeme Simsion‘s bestselling book, with a script by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber (“The Spectacular Now,” “The Fault In Our Stars“), the romantic comedy follows a scientist who thinks he’s put together the formula for the perfect match, until he meets someone who turns his whole theory upside down. It really sounds like pretty standard fare, and I suppose we’ll have to suspend our disbelief that Hunky Scientist Reynolds has trouble finding love. At any rate, there’s still plenty of time to figure out how to get the handle on that material to feels fresh. Why?
Well, according to Deadline, the first priority for Reynolds — following the sci-fi “Life” with Jake Gyllenhaal and Rebecca Ferguson — is the already greenlit sequel to “Deadpool.” Heroic Hollywood reports that Reynolds’ deal for the followup is all locked up, and production will begin this fall, which sounds about right. 20th Century Fox is going to want to get that movie cookin’ as soon as possible, and with an untitled Marvel movie date set by the studio for October 6, 2017, I’d bet pretty heavily that’s when you’ll see “Deadpool 2.”
So, lots to come from the actor, and yes, it looks like we’re gearing up for a bonafide Reynoldssaince.
