“Freaks and Geeks” lasting only one season left many questions unanswered, perhaps the most pertinent of which was “Whatever happened to Millie?” The schoolmarm in waiting was the goody two shoes who vocally disapproved of Lindsay Weir’s (Linda Cardellini) newfound habit of hanging out on the smoking patio and abandoning the academic decathlon. We unfortunately can’t tell you what became of her — perhaps no one can in this cold, sad universe of ours — but we do know what the actress who played her, Sarah Hagan, is up to: starring in “Sun Choke.”
Writer/director Ben Cresciman’s psychodrama features Hagan as Janie, whose recovery from a violent nervous breakdown entails a bizarre health-and-wellness regimen overseen by her lifelong nanny (Barbara Crampton). In this new, multihued poster provided exclusively to Indiewire, we get a sense of her troubled headspace: “there are a lot of ways this world can hurt you,” we’re assured.
“Sun Choke” is Cresciman’s follow-up to “Negative Space,” which he also wrote and directed. XLrator Media will release the thriller in theaters on August 5 and on VOD and iTunes on August 2.
