Fran Kranz has officially joined the cast of Sony’s “The Dark Tower.” The film is based on the Stephen King-dark fantasy series of the same name.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the “Cabin in the Woods” actor will take on the role of Pimli, the right hand man of the Man in Black, portrayed by Matthew McConaughey. Idris Elba is also on board as the wandering gunslinger who is the last hope of the land Mid-World. His character will be in search of the Dark Tower while battling his enemy the Man in Black. Abbey Lee will be seen as Tirana, Jackie Earle Haley is Sayre and Tom Taylor is Jake Chambers.
The film will be set in the modern world and, according to the author, will start in the middle of the story instead of the beginning. “[It] may upset some of the fans a little bit, but they’ll get behind it, because it is the story,” King told EW. Nikolaj Arcei will helm the feature, with Ron Howard and Brian Grazer as producers.
Kranz was last seen in the indie adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing” and the series “Dollhouse.” This past week his upcoming Netflix series “Rebirth” premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.
“The Dark Tower” is slated to hit theaters on Feb. 17, 2017.
