When one thinks of spring, the last things that come to mind may very well be werewolves, evil spirits and zombies — all packed in a single gothic horror show. However, that might just change as “Penny Dreadful” returns with a vengeance next month. Darkness will loom over the season as the show looks to return in top form with its third run, simply by doing what it does best: giving us the spooks, and yes, more of the fantastic (and underappreciated) Eva Green.
After making a guest appearance on the show last season, Patti LuPone joins up as a series regular as Dr. Seward, who has a rather unconventional new plan for Vanessa’s treatment. Wes Studi, previously from “Hell on Wheels,” also joins the rest of the stacked cast as Kaetenay, an intense and enigmatic Native American who possesses a deep bond to Ethan (Josh Hartnett). And if that weren’t enough, Shazad Latif also joins the show as Dr. Henry Jekyll. “Penny Dreadful” certainly knows how to make a comeback by constantly expanding its ominous universe.
