If, in the many months since you binge-watched every episode of “Narcos,” you’ve felt a void that only TV shows about the drug trade can fill, fret no longer. “Queen of the South” premieres on USA this summer, and the network has released a new trailer to hold you over in the meantime. An adaptation of the same best-selling novel that inspired “La Reina del Sur,” a telenovela that cost $10 million to produce and made Telemundo even more, it stars Alice Braga as a woman who absconds from Mexico to America in the aftermath of her boyfriend’s murder.
The American Dream often takes on a dark form in film and on television, and this latest series looks no different. The footage includes bad guys donning Día de los Muertos masks, a dude who may or may not be innocent getting shot into an unmarked desert grave and a drug-queen matriarch saying “Welcome to America” to our heroine. (Something tells me her greeting isn’t entirely sincere.)
No premiere date has been announced yet, which means you’ll have to live in uncertainty for a while. Who knows — you may even long have enough to get your fix by rewatching “Breaking Bad” in its entirety.
