This year’s Cannes Film Festival is right around the corner, and yet it feels like only yesterday that last year’s festivities were wrapping up. Perhaps it’s due to the fact that it takes at least a year for some of the titles to reach theaters (“Green Room” being the most recent example).
While some of us were fortunate enough to catch these films at Cannes, or later at other fests, the rest of us are still excited to see these interesting films. One of which is Palme d’Or nominee “Mon Roi” (or “My King” in the states), the latest effort from Maïwenn (“Polisse”). The relationship deconstruction drama follows Tony (Cannes Best Actress winner Emmanuelle Bercot), who after a skiing accident takes her rehabilitation time to reflect on her relationship with Georgio (Vincent Cassel), pondering what she loved about him and why their passionate union has led to such destruction.
You can check out the trailer below, which looks like a lower-key “Gone Girl” in the way it utilizes flashbacks to examine the seeds planted to an imploding relationship. “Mon Roi” will be released stateside on July 15th.
