Although April brings months of showers, inclement weather also gives us a chance to spend our time watching a whole bunch of newly released indie festival films. The most recent export from last year’s Toronto International Film Festival, “The Steps” brings new life to the dysfunctional family comedy. Directed by indie veteran Andrew Currie, the movie stars Jason Ritter, Emmanuelle Chriqui, James Brolin, Christine Lahti and more as the aforementioned family.
The TIFF release follows an uptight New Yorker and his partying sister as they go to meet their father and his new wife as his lake house. While there, they are forced to clash with her rough-around-the-edges kids, and their parents announce that they are preparing to adopt a child. As they struggle to make it through the week, these strangers slowly (and hilariously) figure out how to become a family.
“The Steps” will be released on VOD and Blu-ray/DVD on June 28. Check out our exclusive trailer above.
