In Mark Elijah Rosenberg’s “Approaching the Unknown,” Captain William Stanaforth (Mark Strong) embarks on a one-way solo mission to Mars. He’s tasked with taking the world’s first step towards colonizing the planet and moving science a huge step forward. But Stanaforth is completely alone amongst the stars as he makes the long journey, and thus he’s forced to reckon with all the various problems of space travel by himself. When his ship’s life-sustaining systems begin to fail, Stanaforth is forced to make choices by himself, compromising his sanity and the mission in the process. Watch this exclusive clip above featuring Mark Strong taking in the majesty of Earth from space as he “kicks off his shoes for the rest of the ride.”
