READ MORE: Review: ‘Captain America: Civil War’ Shows the Best and Worst of Marvel Movies
The summer movie season officially starts this weekend with the release of the mega-blockbuster “Captain America: Civil War.” A lot of talk throughout the film’s publicity tour has centered on how much Marvel and Disney have pulled from the indie community to find directors for their franchise films (think the recent hiring of Ryan Coogler for “Black Panter”), but it would also appear that the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s dependence on indies extends to the large ensemble cast as well.
While actors like Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr. and Paul Rudd have always dabbled in both, many of the Marvel supporting players landed their roles based on the strength of their indie film histories. Be it Elizabeth Olsen, Jeremy Renner or Anthony Mackie, among many others, indie film stars are thriving in the MCU right now, which only solidifies the power of indie film to spotlight unforgettable talent way before Hollywood starts paying attention. With “Captain America: Civil War” finally now in theaters, we thought we’d put readers to the test to see just how well they know the large ensemble cast.
You surely know them by their superhero alter egos, but it’s time to really put your knowledge of these blockbuster stars to the test. Each question provides a simple logline explaining the actor and his/her part in a particular indie. It’s short and sweet and specific, and it’s up to you to be able to pick out the indie movie from there.
