Based on an original story by the “Jurassic World” filmmaker, “Powerhouse” will be directed and written by Carmichael and produced by Trevorrow and Kinberg, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Details of the plot are under wraps but the film will be a family action package that will demonstrate the director’s skills.
“Emily Carmichael is the next great writer-director of the kind of movies I love,” said Trevorrow in a statement. “Her ability to find warmth and humanity in genre storytelling is a superpower in itself.”
Holly Bario, Amblin Partners president of production, added, “We look forward to seeing Emily’s creative vision take shape with a truly original story from Colin which has all the signature qualities of an Amblin film.”
Carmichael is known for her artistic short stories and animated web series “The Adventures of Ledo and Ix” and “RPG OKC,” which won the Jury Award of Best Short at the 2013 Philadelphia Film Festival. Her film “The Hunter and the Swan Discuss Their Meeting” won the grand jury prize at the 2012 Science Fiction Fantasy Short Film Festival and caught the eye of Trevorrow. He then invited her to the set of his drama “The Book of Henry,” where they developed the characters involved in “Powerhouse.”
