Rodrigo Garcia’s “Last Days in the Desert” may follow Jesus on a familiar journey through, well, the desert, but the new feature also promises some unexpected male bonding of many stripes. The film, which debuted at Sundance back in 2015, follows Jesus (played by Ewan McGregor) in an “imagined chapter” of his forty days spent in the desert praying and fasting, during which he runs into the Devil (yes, also played by Ewan McGregor) and apparently a moody teen (played by Tye Sheridan).
The feature promises to chronicle Jesus as “struggles…over the fate of an ordinary family in crisis, setting for himself a dramatic test with distinctly human conflicts,” and we appear to be getting hints of the family drama to come in a brand new clip that sees McGregor (as Jesus, we hope) bonding with Sheridan’s character over some familiar struggles, like making one’s mark, traveling out of the desert and living up to some hefty demands from one’s own father. Relatable!
“Last Days in the Desert” will open on May 13. Check out our exclusive clip above.
