Other than that nasty business with a mother and her newborn being mauled by dogs at the behest of Ramsay Bolton, season six of “Game of Thrones” has been uncharacteristically — and disarmingly — upbeat so far. Past is prologue, of course, which indicates that all these positive developments may only lead to more pain and sorrow, but perhaps the tide is finally beginning to turn in favor of the good guys.
New photos from this Sunday’s episode, “The Door,” appear to complicate this upward trend somewhat. Littlefinger and Sansa are in the same place at the same time, which is never a good sign, and we’re finally being introduced to Kinvara (Ania Bukstein) — another Red Priestess, like Melisandre. What with Mel now on Jon Snow’s side, it seems unlikely that the latest follower of R’hllor will likewise be a force for good.
Most compellingly, the photos also confirm that Bran will be in the next episode after being absent from Sunday’s “Book of the Stranger.” The young Stark was most recently seen glimpsing into his father’s past, a sequence cut off just before it could confirm or disconfirm a prevalent fan theory (google “R+L=J”) that could make the entire show’s backstory fall into place.
