The film is described as a character-driven thriller that focuses on a war veteran who now works to rescue women from sex traffickers. When he tries to rescue a girl from a brothel in New York, things go horribly wrong, setting off a storm of violence and vengeance.
The Scottish director also penned the script, which was adapted from a novella by Jonathan Ames, creator of the HBO show “Bored To Death.”
Film4 and British Film Institute are supporting the development. Insiders, the L.A.-based sales company, is handling the project and shopping it to buyers in Cannes. Rosa Attab, Pascal Caucheteux and James Wilson are producing for Why Not Productions with Page 114 as co-producer.
Ramsay’s last feature, “We Need To Talk About Kevin,” was premiered in Cannes competition in 2011 and received a Golden Globe nomination for Tilda Swinton. She was also scheduled to direct Natalie Portman in “Jane Got a Gun” but left the project after a disagreement.
