'Trainspotting 2': First Teaser Trailer Confirms The Entire Main Cast Will Be Back For More Mayhem

Production on Danny Boyle’s highly anticipated “Trainspotting” sequel has officially begun with the entire main cast, and Sony Pictures Releasing is celebrating with an adrenaline-fueled teaser trailer announcing the big reunion. The new film is set 20 years after the 1996 movie and will see the characters cross paths again. The script is adapted for the screen by original screenwriter John Hodge, based on the novel “Porno” by Irvine Welsh. Ewan McGregor is returning as Mark ‘Rent Boy’ Renton, Jonny Lee Miller as Simon ‘Sick Boy’ Williamson and Robert Carlyle as Begbie.

“It’s like 20 years later, and it’s the same actors. You know, it’s 20 years later in a friendship,” Boyle told press at the New York Film Festival last year. “Irvine Welsh is involved as one of the partners on the film. We’ve set up a partnership amongst us all and he’s one of the partners. The idea of them coming back together again, in the book it’s 10 years and in ours its 20, and it’s very different. It will be called an adaptation, but it won’t be called ‘Porno.'”

The film’s title is actually “T2,” and the trailer features memorable footage from the original film and a voiceover from McGregor. While the teaser confirms that production is officially underway, it also announces that it will be released in the UK on January 27, 2017. Does this mean U.S. audiences should expect the film to be released stateside in winter 2017? It seems possible. Watch the teaser above.
