Xavier Dolan’s highly-anticipated film “It’s Only the End of the World” will make it’s Cannes Film Festival debut on May 19. Just in time for its premiere, a handful of new images were released of the competition drama.
Starring Marion Cotillard, Léa Seydoux, Vincent Cassel, Nathalie Baye and Gaspard Ulliel, the French-language film centers around a writer who returns home after being away for 12 years to reveal his forthcoming death to his family.
“The movie is, quite simply, about family and the difficulty of loving one another,” Dolan told ScreenDaily. “I guess it isn’t much of a change for me, but I’ve always been tentative about venturing into unknown territory. It’s always about mothers and sons, intimate dynamics, unrequited love, the struggle of different people to fit within the mould of society. All these things interest me because they matter to me and resonate with my life. But I’ve also shied away from the things and themes I felt unfamiliar with. I guess that’s about to change.”
Viewers received a glimpse of what they would expect in two new clips that were released last week.
