“Cold Weather” and especially “Land Ho!” pointed toward Aaron Katz as a filmmaker on the rise. The cast of his next film, a thriller set in Los Angeles called “Gemini,” would appear to bear that perception out: Lola Kirke (“Mistress America”), Zoë Kravitz (“Mad Max: Fury Road”) and John Cho (“Harold and Kumar”) are all set to star.
No plot details have been made public yet, but the ensemble cast joining the main trio is impressive: Ricki Lake (“The Ricki Lake Show”), Greta Lee (“Girls”), Michelle Forbes (“The Killing”), Nelson Franklin (“Veep”), Reeve Carney (“Penny Dreadful”), Jessica Parker Kennedy (“Black Sails”) and James Ransone (“Tangerine”). Principal photography has already begun on “Gemini,” which is being produced by Mynette Louie, Sara Murphy and Adele Romanski; Rough House Pictures is executive-producing.
Katz co-wrote and -directed “Land Ho!” with Martha Stephens. After premiering at Sundance in 2014, it received a theatrical release courtesy of Sony Pictures Classics and went on to win the John Cassavetes Award at the Independent Spirits.
