Oscar-winner Brie Larson may soon take the next step in cementing her superstar status: Starring in a Marvel movie.

According to reports in Variety, the actress is said to be the newest frontrunner to play Captain Marvel, the latest addition to the Marvel Studios’ trove of on-screen comic book heroes.

While the film is still without a director, this would be another in a line of indie performers joining the Marvel team. The “Room” and “Short Term 12” star is the latest said to be in line to play Carol Danvers, the pilot who absorbs superhuman ability.

Ever since Captain Marvel was announced as its own film, the role has been the subject of speculation. Elizabeth Debicki had been seen as a leading candidate for the role before news surfaced this morning that her role in the upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2” will likely be the villainous Ayesha, not Danvers.

If cast, Larson will have already made her blockbuster debut; filming on the upcoming “Kong: Skull Island” is already well under way. She’s also slated to appear in “Free Fire,” the latest from “High-Rise” director Ben Wheatley.
