The June 12 assault on an Orlando nightclub, in which 49 lives were taken by a gunman, was an act of senseless hatred and violence. It was and still is so devastating and soul draining. But what shines a little bit of light through the dark is how much of the world reacted in support. Recently, the Broadway community came together to honor the victims of the shooting and to give support to the LGBT community, showing that “love can conquer hate” and that “love must prevail.”
A few days after the attack, Playbill and Broadway Records worked together on the exclusive music video “Broadway for Orlando,” which brought together powerful voices such as Sara Bareilles, Carole King, Kristen Bell, Audra McDonald, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Wayne Brady and Brian Stokes Mitchell amongst many, many more. The song they sung? Burt Bacharach and Hal David’s “What the World Needs Now is Love.”
Watch the touching tribute below, and continue to spread the love. The digital download is available for purchase at BroadwayRecords.com and iTunes, and 100 percent of the proceeds will benefit the LGBT Center of Central Florida.
