Therapy is already tough to attend. It gets even tougher when one doesn’t click with the therapist, let alone when the therapist is so young that it’s skeptical about whether or not he’ll be able to help with issues such as sobriety and ex-wives. But that’s exactly what Marc from IFC’s “Maron” has to go through in the IndieWire exclusive clip from Wednesday’s upcoming episode “Shrink and Kink.” We feel for you Marc.

Many may know the real Marc Maron from his podcast “WTF.” But the show “Maron,” created by Maron, follows a fictionalized version of himself who’s trying to put his drunken, selfish past behind him after the popularity of his podcast and his choice to go sober, but still struggles to maintain relationships.

The “inception” is dense. IndieWire TV Critic Ben Travers praised the show’s handling of the character, saying in his B+ review of Season 4’s first two episodes that “By honing in on what makes Marc Maron exactly who he is, by separating him from the bubble of fame he’s been desperately trying to expand, ‘Maron’ seems to have found its way into the ‘peak TV’ conversation.”

Check out the clip below! “Shrink and Kink,” episode 9 of Season 4, airs on Wednesday, June 22 at 9pm on IFC. The logline reads: “When Marc begins working with a therapist, he runs into his ex-wife which drudges up old issues.”
