Fans of the 1985 film, “The Goonies,” have been waiting for a sequel for decades, hoping that the rumors that surface every few years would lead to a second part. Several original cast members such as Corey Feldman, Josh Brolin and Sean Astin have even expressed their interest in reprising their roles at one point or another. Now, Astin has teased some information about a potential sequel.
During a special appearance at Phoenix Comicon 2016, the “Lord of The Rings” actor said “Goonies 2” will happen and revealed a popular character that it will return.
“In the original ‘Goonies,’ it’s not the only time Mikey will come face-to-face with One-Eyed Willy,” Astin revealed.
In the film Astin played Mikey, a kid who goes on an adventure with his friends, who are all in danger of losing their family homes to developers. After setting off to find treasure to save their parents from having to sell their homes, they come face-to-face with the mythical pirate One-Eyed Willy.
Rumors have surfaced that the sequel will include the children from the first film, as adults, and their own children, who will take them on a new adventure. Though nothing has been confirmed at this time.
