Important topics can be discussed in a wide range of formats under many different umbrellas. HBO’s upcoming series “Insecure” won’t be the first to mix comedy with an important topic like race, but it looks to be a show that will expand the conversation with that mix — because sometimes laughs can be the best kind of investigation into serious issues. HBO dropped the first trailer for the show today, which highlighting both the troubles face both within and outside of the black community.
Per the release, “[‘Insecure’] looks at the friendship of two black women and their uncomfortable experiences and racy tribulations.” Created by Issa Rae and starring Rae and Yvonne Orji, the eight half-hour episodes will debut later this fall. Rae got her start on the web series “The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl” and has had “Insecure” in the works even before HBO greenlit the show last year.
