Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman is getting into the virtual reality world. The actress stars in a new five-minute short film, “Reimagined,” for Etihad Airways. The video is a 360-degree journey that lets the viewer control the shot and take a look all around the airline’s new Airbus A380s, flying non-stop between New York and Abu Dhabi.
In the film viewers see all aspects of the plane and its extraordinary and luxurious features. It then centers on Kidman as she’s in a meeting, roams around the airplane and sits comfortably on her bed. The shots are used to showcase the ample room and comfort that one has when traveling on the new Airbus A380s.
The actress serves as the airline’s brand ambassador and in 2015 also starred in another Etihad ad campaign.
“Given the success of our previous global advertising campaign work with her, she was the obvious choice for this project,” Shane O’Hare, svp of Marketing for Etihad told AdWeek. “She is an outstanding actor and was as keen as us to explore this opportunity to leverage an exciting new medium.”
The video is directed by Anthony Atanasio and Valerie Martinez who used pioneering filming techniques to ensure that there would be no “warping” in the final product. The airline produced the film with The Barbarian Group, a subsidiary of Cheil Worldwide, and the creative digital production company MediaMonks. The movie was filmed in Abu Dhabi and took six months to create.
