T.J. Miller, who stars on HBO’s “Silicon Valley” and recently appeared in the films “Deadpool” and “Search Party,” has been announced as the latest cast member to join Steven Spielberg’s “Ready Player One,” The Hollywood Reporterhas confirmed. The adaptation of Ernest Cline’s dystopian science-fiction novel already counts Tye Sheridan (“The Tree of Life,” “X-Men: Apocalypse”), Olivia Cooke (“Me and Earl and the Dying Girl”), Simon Pegg, Ben Mendelsohn, and Mark Rylance among its stars.
Production is slated to begin later this month on the film, which concerns the death of a popular video-game developer (Rylance) whose death sets off a virtual competition to claim the massive amounts of money he’s left behind as a prize — a sort of virtual “Hunger Games” in which no strategy is off the table.
Miller is playing i-R0k, an online troll. Given his comic persona, it should be a natural fit.
