After breaking ground with “Lazer Team” (the second-highest funded film on Indiegogo), Rooster Teeth is continuing to solidify themselves as one of the more diverse content creators out there. Known mainly for their comedic, machinima/animated series “Red vs. Blue,” the Austin-based company looks to step into new territory with their first live-action dramatic series “Day 5.”

“Day 5” follows Jake, a drug addict who’s suddenly awakened to a nearly empty world. After discovering that sleep has turned fatal and most of the population is dead, Jake teams up with the people best equipped to stay awake: a young teenager, an overnight doctor and a red-eye pilot. As the delirium intensifies and the chaos grows, the group must find out what caused this, which will hopefully allow them to sleep again. Every failed second, however, is a second closer to drifting off to their deaths.

Entertainment Weekly exclusively dropped the full trailer this morning. The thriller represents a tonal shift for the company, but hits a sci-fi element that they are more than familiar with. With their foot now in the dramatic series door, as well as in almost every other content door one could think of, it’s both hard and easy to imagine what new territory they’ll conquer next.

Per the official release, “Day 5” premieres June 19 at RoosterTeeth.com exclusively for subscribers. New episodes premiere each Sunday.
