“Roseanne for President!” follows Roseanne Barr’s 2012 Presidential campaign on the “Green Tea Party” ticket, in which she advocated, among other positions, for the legalization of marijuana and the return of the guillotine as capital punishment. Barr’s campaign received a divided response from the public, with some claiming that it was a publicity stunt approaching performance art, while others argued that it was a genuine attempt to reach the highest office in the country. She eventually lost to candidate Jill Stein, but Barr later announced she would run on the Peace and Freedom Party. By the end of her campaign, Barr received over 65,000 votes nationwide. Barr began her career in stand-up comedy in the early 1980’s where she first came to prominence. She then starred in and produced her own critically-acclaimed blue-collar sitcom “Roseanne” from 1988 to 1997, alongside Laurie Metcalf, John Goodman, Sara Gilbert, and more. She won an Emmy for her performance in 1993. She has also written three books, hosted a radio show, as well as a TV show on Investigation Discovery called “Momsters: When Mom’s Go Bad.”
“Roseanne for President!” is directed by Eric Weinrib. It opens in Los Angeles and New York on July 1st and on VOD the same day.
