After earning six Oscar nominations and the biggest box office hit of his directorial career ($547.4 million worldwide) with “American Sniper,” Clint Eastwood is turning to another dramatic true story of heroism in the hopes of making a worthy successor. With the likes of Tom Hanks, Laura Linney and Aaron Eckhart by his side, “Sully” should have no problem bringing in adult audiences this awards season.
The behind-the-scenes true story of the “Miracle on the Hudson,” the drama stars Tom Hanks as the eponymous airplane pilot who glided his disabled plane onto the waters of the Hudson River in January 2009, saving the lives of all 155 passengers aboard. His efforts made him a figure of national attention, and the movie looks to cover both the harrowing incident and the legal situations and media attention that erupted in its aftermath.
Warner Brothers will release “Sully” on September 9, getting an early start on possible awards attention. Watch the heart-stopping debut trailer below.
