Warner Bros. TV had previously announced that Superman would appear at the beginning of “Supergirl’s” second season, as the show moves from CBS to The CW. The plot hasn’t been revealed yet, other than Superman will be visiting his Krypton cousin Kara (Melissa Benoist) in National City.

Superman has already made appearances on “Supergirl,” but only as blurry glimpses.
“Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman,” said executive producer Andrew Kreisberg.

Hoechlin will next star in “Stratton.” His other credits include the TV series “Teen Wolf” and “7th Heaven,” as well as the films “Road to Perdition,” “Hall Pass” and “Solstice.”
The casting continues the DC Comics tradition of keeping actors playing the film and TV versions of its characters separate, as Henry Cavill currently plays Superman on the big screen. The announcement also puts to rest speculation that Tom Welling, who played young Clark Kent on “Smallville” for The WB (and later, The CW), might be up for the role.
