If you’ve ever had questions about “Back to the Future,” Kirk Cameron has answers. The actor hosts “The Secrets of the Back to the Future Trilogy,” a behind-the-scenes featurette from 1990 in which the “Growing Pains” star explains the inner workings of Robert Zemeckis’ time-travel franchise.
Cameron, whose more recent work is a bit, um, different, reads letters from fans with a burning desire to know more about the beloved trilogy. The first of these asks whether hoverboards are real and, if not, when they will be; if only time travel itself were real and the concerned fan could visit 2016 to see that hoverboards now kind of sort of are but mostly just catch on fire and hurt people. Cameron uses the question as a segue into the special-effects work that went into the device, an impressive bit of movie magic that may disappoint fans who refuse to believe that the futuristic skateboards aren’t actually real.
Another totally real-sounding letter is from a man who introduces himself as “a car salesman in a major metropolitan area” who’d love for Cameron to give him a rundown of the DeLorean’s features. Watch the full 20-minute video for more.
