Action stars like the “Jason Bourne” franchise’s Matt Damon are badasses. They’ve kicked plenty of villain butt and know how to fight in all kinds of situations. Right? Well, not exactly. In a GQ video, the magazine’s August cover star Damon reveals that movie fights may look spontaneous and real, but are actually more intensively choreographed than one may think — so much so that Damon would call them dancers.
“It’s much more like a dance,” he says, “so as tough as Hollywood actors pretend they are, they are really more dancers than fighters.” The video unveils the secrets of Hollywood action as Damon provides on a lesson on how a cinematic bar fight should look. Demonstrating with GQ’s Jim Moore, he shows that the camera can be a useful tool for hiding the artifice and that executing a takedown involves even the poor soul getting beaten up.
