The new animated musical comedy film “Sing” is about to win over hearts and minds of people everywhere. Set in a world populated by anthropomorphic animals, the film follows a koala named Buster Moon (Matthew McConaughey), a struggling theater owner who holds a singing contest to raise money for the theater and the entire town decides to audition for a part in the show. The film’s main characters include Rosita (Reese Witherspoon), a domestic pig who gave up her singing dreams to become a devoted mother; Mike (Seth MacFarlane), a little white mouse with a big voice; Meena (Tori Kelly), an Africa elephant with a beautiful voice and crippling stage fright; Johnny (Taron Egerton), a British mountain gorilla who wants to sing but his father wants him to follow in his criminal footsteps; and Ash (Scarlett Johansson), a crested porcupine in an alt-rock band with her boyfriend. Other stars include John C. Reilly (“Boogie Nights”), Nick Kroll (“The League”), Nick Offerman (“Parks and Recreation”), Peter Serafinowicz (“Shaun of the Dead”), Leslie Jones (“Ghostbusters”), and more.
“Sing” is directed by Garth Jennings, a successful music video director who has worked with artists like Radiohead, Pulp, R.E.M., Beck, and Vampire Weekend. He’s also directed two prior films: “The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy,” an adaptation of the acclaimed Douglas Adams novel by the same name, and “Son of Rambow,” a coming-of-age story about two schoolboys who try to make an amateur film inspired by “First Blood.”
“Sing” will hit theaters on December 21st.
