Chills. That’s about all we can say after watching the new behind-the-scenes featurette for Gareth Edward’s “Star Wars: Rogue One.” The highly anticipated standalone entry has been one of the biggest question marks since Disney and Lucasfilm announced their massive plan to bring “Star Wars” back to the screen. Everyone was psyched for J.J. Abrams “The Force Awakens” to continue the story of the beloved origins, but how would a sequel/prequel fare?
We have to wait until December for the full answer to that question, but the featurette below suggests it’s going to fare pretty damn well. Led by Oscar nominee Felicity Jones, “Rogue One” centers around a group of Rebel fighters tasked with stealing the Empire’s plans for the Death Star. The cast includes Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker and Mads Mikkelsen. And yes, Darth Vader will be appearing.
Ever since boarding the project following the blockbuster success of “Godzilla,” Edwards has been clear about his plans to essentially make a war film. This notion is abundantly clear in the behind-the-scenes footage.
“Star Wars: Rogue One” opens in theaters December 16. Watch the trailer below.
