The upcoming superhero film “Suicide Squad” follows a band of imprisoned supervillains who are recruited by a secret government agency to execute dangerous black ops missions in exchange for clemency. These villains are Deadshot (Will Smith), an expert assassin; Joker (Jared Leto), a psychopathic wild card; Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), a crazed, former psychiatrist; Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), the team’s field leader and the government’s man on the inside; Boomerang (Jai Courtney), a boomerang-obsessed assassin; El Diablo (Jay Hernandez), an L.A. gang member who can summon flames, Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), a supervillain with a skin condition that causes reptilian features, and more. The film also features Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, the government official who “runs” the Squad; Cara Delevinge as Enchantress, an ancient evil force; and Ben Affleck as Batman. Watch the international trailer below, which plays up the wacky fun of the film, complete with witty quips and a gun-toting panda, and scored to Sweet’s “Ballroom Blitz.”
The film is written and directed by David Ayer, whose previous credits include “Fury,” about U.S. tank crews in Nazi Germany in the last days of World War II, and”End of Watch,” about the lives of two LAPD officers who work on the streets. He also wrote the script for the Oscar-winning “Training Day.”
“Suicide Squad” opens in theaters on August 5th.
